Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Brand 2005
Appellation Alsace Grand Cru Contrôlée
Dopff au Moulin
68340 Riquewihr (Haut-Rhin)

Tasted December 12th, 2016.

Pineapple and Lychee give way to a stream of honey -infused glycerine, ending in – nice touch – a cloud of Bourbon vanilla. It’s satisfying though far from sensational.

Sampled with Choucroute with confit de canard.

Ah, this is the redemption of Dopff au Moulin – well, sort of. While their Riesling (tasted last week) was not that impressive, this is a respectable – though certainly not sensational – Gewurztraminer. This wine at least can far better handle the (13.5% again !) high alcohol content.

Then, again: it’s a Grand Cru. And a good 11 years old. Shouldn’t it show more ?  I have sincere doubts on whether this wine delivers what it should – or what I expected at least.
